Bairstow ruled out of IPL 2023; Australia's Matthew Short named replacement Jonny Bairstow will not play IPL 2023 as the England wicketkeeper-batter, who plays for Punjab Kings, continues to recover from the freak injury he picked up last September. ESPNcricinfo has learned that uncapped Australian batter Matthew Short will be Bairstow's replacement for the 2023 season. Kings, via the BCCI, had been waiting for Bairstow's exact fitness status from the ECB after he had resumed training in late February as part of his rehab. Rajat Patidar to miss first half of IPL 2023 with heel injury Rajat Patidar, Royal Challengers Bangalore's breakout star of IPL 2022, is set to miss at least the first half of the upcoming season due to a heel injury. Patidar is currently undergoing rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru. ESPNcricinfo understands Patidar has been advised rest for the next three weeks before an MRI scan will determine his participation in the second half of the competition. He picked up the injury prior to joining the camp, and will need an NCA clearance before linking up with Royal Challengers. The Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI) on March 27 announced the Annual Player Contracts for the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team for the 2022-23 season for the period of October 2022 to September 2023. As per the list, a total of 26 players have been named in the annual contract list divided into four grades such as A+ A, B and C. Players in Grade A+ fall in the play bracket of Rs 7 crore, grade A in Rs 5 crore, B in Rs 3 crore and C in Rs 1 crore. Out of 26 players, a total of five players have got a promotion in the annual contract, while two have been demoted while retaining their contract. Besides this, six others who were not contracted in the previous cycle, have been included in the present list while seven players have not got a place in the renewed contracts.
