Important calculation in cricket ,Every cricketers should know ( Net runrate,Asking rate,Required runrate,Over rate,Bonus point)

Calculation formulae for Scorers’ and Statisticians

Bowling Extras is number of runs conceded through No Balls & Wide Balls .
Fielding Extras is number of runs conceded through Byes & Leg Byes.

Grand Total is

Batting Total + Bowling Extras + Fielding Extras + Penalty Extras should tally with
Bowling Total + Fielding Extras + Penalty Extras.

Runs per Over

Runs per Over is number of runs scored in an over i.e., Total number of runs scored divided by number of overs played. Here in a limited overs match if a team is all out in less than the stipulated number of overs then the number of overs played shall be the full quota of overs allotted. If the team batting second scores the runs in less than the allotted overs, then actual number of overs played shall be taken. In an innings match the number of overs played shall be the actual number of overs played.

Run per Over = Runs Scored
                              Overs played /Allotted Overs
Examples:

Innings Match
532 for 9 in 123.0 overs 4.33

256 all out in 75.2 overs 3.40

Limited Overs Match
239 for 6 in 50 overs 4.78
265 for 4 in 46.4 overs 5.68
164 all out in 38.1 overs 3.28

When there is a fraction of over, convert the overs into balls and multiply the quotient with 6.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Asking Rate

Asking Rate is Target Score divided by number of overs allotted.

Asking Rate Opponent's Score + 1
             Overs allotted
Examples:

239 for 6 in 50 overs 4.80
265 for 4 in 50 overs 5.32
164 all out in 38.1 overs 3.30

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Required Run Rate

Required Run Rate is Remaining Runs required divided by Remaining number of Overs.

Required Run Rate = Remaining runs to score
                                             Remaining overs to play
Examples:
Score of Team 1         Team 2 at one stage Remaining Req.RR
239 for 6 in 50 overs 56 for 2 in 10.0 overs 184/40             4.60
265 for 4 in 50 overs 187 for 6 in 40.2 overs    79/9.4 (58)     8.17

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Over Rate

Over Rate is number of overs bowled by a team in an hour i.e., Total number of Overs bowled divided by number of minutes played, later multiplied by 60.

Over Rate   = Number of overs bowled x 60
                    Number of minutes played
Examples:
532 for 9 in 123.0 overs of 504 minutes         123/504 14.64
256 all out in 75.2 overs of 323 minutes   76/323 14.12

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Net Run Rate

Net Run Rate of a team is calculated by deducting the average runs per over scored by that team throughout the league stage from the average runs per over scored against the team throughout the league stage. In the event of team being all out in less than its full quota of overs, the calculation of its run rate shall be based on the full quota of overs to which it would have been entitled and not on the number of overs in which the team was dismissed.

Net Run Rate = Runs Scored     _    Runs Given
                                        Overs played          Overs bowled

Examples:
Team 1 for Against
233 for 9 in 50 overs 234 for 5 in 49 overs
182 for 2 in 36.2 overs 180 all out in 44.5 overs
276 for 9 in 50 overs 256 all out in 50 overs
254 for 3 in 47 over 219 all out in 41.3 overs

945 in 183.2 overs      889 in 196 overs

945/1100 x6

(When there is a fraction of over, convert the overs into balls and multiply the quotient with 6)

=5.15                         = 4.54

=5.15-4.54

NRR = +0.61

If match ends in NO RESULT, then the scores of that match will not be considered. In a match, where VJD/DLS method is applied to achieve a result, for net run rate purpose Team 1‟s score shall be the par score of Team 2 at the time of abandonment, the number of overs shall be the overs faced by Team 2.

Where a match is concluded with VJD/DLS method applied at the earlier point, Team 1‟s score shall be one run less than the final Target Score for Team 2 and total number of overs allocated to Team 2 to reach the target.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Run Quotient (Net Wicket Rate)

Run Quotient (Net Wicket Rate) of a team is calculated by dividing the average runs per wicket scored by that team throughout the league stage from the average runs per wicket scored against the team throughout the league stage.

Run Quotient = Runs Scored  divided by   Runs Given
                                     Wickets lost          Wickets taken
Example:
For Against
1. 131 for 1 wkt in 42 overs         1. 227 all out in 101.3 overs
2. 214 for 8 wkts in 42.4 overs 2. 244 all out in 118.5 overs

3. 179 all out in 63.5 overs         3. 103 all out in 48 overs
    272 for 5 wkts dec.in 61 overs     189 all out in 51.2 overs

4. 342 all out in 91.4 overs         4. 160 all out in 74.5 overs
    134 for 7 wkts in 36.1 overs

5. 238 all out in 82.1 overs         5. 279 all out in 87.4 overs
    254 for 5 wkts in 86 overs

Total: 1630 runs, 49 wickets    Total: 1336 runs, 67 wickets
Average = 33.27                         Average = 19.94

Run Quotient = 1.67

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bonus Point

The team that achieves a run rate of 1.25 times that of the opposition shall be awarded a bonus point. In the event of team being all out in less than its full quota of overs, the calculation of its run rate shall be based on the full quota of overs to which it would have been entitled and not on the number of overs in which the team was dismissed.

Calculation method: When arriving at Overs

Overs = Target Score
                                    Team 1‟s run rate x 1.25

Example: If Team 1 has scored 212 runs in its quota of 50 overs. Then Team 2 to achieve a bonus point has to score the required number of runs in overs.
Team 1‟s run rate = 212 divided by 50 = 4.24
Overs = Target Score
               Team 1‟s run rate x 1.25

= 213
    4.24 x 1.25

= 213
   5.30

= 40.189 (40 overs 1 ball)

when 0.189 is converted into number of balls it will come to 1 ball (0.189x6 = 1.134)

When VJD/DLS method is applied to achieve a result.

Run Rate of Team 1 = Revised par score
                                            Revised no. of overs.

Example: If a team has scored 256 runs in its quota of 50 overs. Rain interruption the match and the target is revised to 243 off 47 overs. The revised par score of team 1 will be 242. The run rate of team 1 will be 242/47 = 5.15
Then to achieve bonus point, Overs = 243
                                                             5.15 x 1.25

= 243 / 6.44

= 37.73 (37 overs 4 balls)

If further interruptions occur for the same match, then the final revised par score and revised number of overs shall be taken into account in the calculations, i.e. the earlier calculations shall be null and void.

An important note to make in the bonus point is for example, if team two was supposed to score the required number of runs in 32.5 overs (Benchmark) and the scores are equal at the end of 32.5 overs and if the next ball is bowled as a no ball or a wide ball and the result is achieved, bonus point should not be given as the benchmark was passed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Calculation method: When arriving at Runs

As a short cut one may multiply the Team 1‟s score by factor 0.8 (1/1.25) to achieve the answer. This may be applied only for arriving runs not the overs.
In a match where VJD method has been applied to achieve a result, Team 1‟s score shall be the final revised par score.

Runs = Team 1 Score x 0.8

Example: If Team 1 has scored 212 runs in its quota of 50 overs. Then Team 1 to achieve a bonus point has to restrict Team 2 for what score?

212 x 0.8 = 169.6 (fraction rounded downwards) = 169
